National Minority Enterprise Development (MED) Week Honors Minority Businesses

Washington (Sept. 4)—At today’s 2008 MED Week Opening Session, "Managing Global Strategic Relationships," Commerce’s Minority Business Development Administration (MBDA) National Director Ronald N. Langston and Secretary of Energy, Samuel Bodman share the importance of global strategic relationships with minority business entrepreneurs. The 26th annual MED Week conference celebrates contributions made by minority enterprises and honors accomplishments of business owners and advocates across the country. (More)

Census Bureau Releases Geographical Mobility Data: Most People Stay Within the Same County

Washington (Sept. 4)—The Department of Commerce’s U.S. Bureau of the Census reports that 39 million people moved in the United States between 2006 and 2007, mostly staying within their same county. The desire to own a home, live in a better neighborhood and other housing-related issues were cited as the most common reason for moving. People in their twenties had the highest moving rates in 2007. (More)

$3 Million EDA Investment Check Presented to Calexico, Calif., for Infrastructure Development

Calexico, Calif. (Sept. 4)—Commerce’s Economic Development Administration (EDA) Deputy Assistant Secretary Matthew Crow and U.S. Representative Bob Filner presented a $3 million EDA investment check to the city of Calexico to help build the infrastructure needed to develop the Town Center Plaza and the Portico/Kloke industrial and commercial sites. The investment is expected to generate $400 million in private investment and create more than 2,000 new jobs. (More)
